The Best Pizza in Denver, Colorado

Ahh Pizza, one of the most universally loved foods of all time. Picky eaters beware, there's something for everyone at Blue Pan Pizza, our pick for Colorado's best.

Blue Pan is a popular pizzeria located in Denver, Colorado. The restaurant specializes in Detroit-style pizza, a rectangular pizza with a thick, crispy crust and cheese that goes all the way to the edge. It's like biting into a crispy, cheesy cloud of warm hugs.

The menu boasts a variety of unique pies, including both traditional and creative combinations of toppings. In addition to pizza, the restaurant also offers salads and appetizers such as eggplant fries and artichokes. There are gluten-free options and New York style crusts as well.

They have two locations, one in the Highlands neighborhood and another in Congress Park. We've only been to the Congress Park location, and we have always done take-out. Mary and I have been determined to try their delicious pizza hot and fresh out of the oven, so we opted for dine-in on our most recent trip.

The entrance is very tight, and they don't have a lot of tables. If you want to try dine-in, then get there early! We got there at about 5:15 and waited for 20 minutes.

One of the main benefits of dine-in is that they have a make-your-own pizza option for kids. Leena was with us and she loved this! The kids pick the toppings and they bring the pizza dough and toppings right to your table. You can help them assemble the pizza, sauce, cheese, and toppings.

Something about making your own food, makes you want to eat it more! Usually, Leena is a "crust only" pizza eater, but not this time. She ate like two whole pieces all by herself, it was pretty amazing. The smaller kids' pizza cooks faster too, so the kids can start to enjoy their creations first.

We ordered their Eggplant Parmesan as an appetizer. The marinara sauce is a flavor punch to your mouth, complex and deep. It came with garlic bread, which Leena also munched on while waiting for her pizza to cook. You can't really tell it's eggplant at all, all the textures and cheese and sauce mingled together beautifully.

For the main course, we went with the San Marzano Pesto Chicken and the Little Rose. The Brooklyn Bridge and Tomato Pie are also excellent, but I think the Little Rose is a limited edition, so we wanted to try it.

The Little Rose has a hot honey sauce, which wasn't overpowering. Just a hint of heat and sweetness, which adds a very unique accent to the pizza. Very good overall. The "cupping pepperoni" is a bit thicker than normal pepperoni, and it bakes into these little cups that trap all the goodness inside.

The San Marzano Pesto Chicken is something we always order, and it's always consistently great. It's piled high with flavorful cherry tomatoes and has a smooth pesto finish. I'm not sure why, but their tomatoes are just way better. Even if you just get the Tomato Pie, which is like the simplest pizza, you get so much flavor.

If you're in a pinch, you can always order take-out and it never disappoints. The main benefits of dine-in are the hot and fresh taste, and also the make-your-own experience. Blue Pan might not be the best pizza in the world, but it's definitely our favorite in all of Colorado.
